Alex Till, NEN chairman and CEO of Menta, has been featured in The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s latest special report, released on 13 June, entitled Workforce Of The Future.
The report examines the changing nature of the workforce providing valuable insights into its future trajectory. Other contributors included Tim Balcon, Chief Executive of CITB, Kevin Rowan, Head of Organising, Services and Learning, TUC, parliamentarians and other leading industry organisations.
Alex spoke about ‘solving the skills shortage with ‘good old-fashioned’ joined-up thinking’. He highlighted:
- The education industry currently seems out of tune with the world of work.
- Local business leaders must engage more with education providers.
- The need to reassess regional pay differences in light of hybrid working.
He said: “I am delighted to represent NEN’s vision and goals in this paper, by providing valuable insight through my experiences talking to SMEs nationwide. The report includes analysis of the factors contributing to the shortage of skills, its impact on businesses and the economy, and recommendations for addressing the issue.
“By addressing the issue of skill shortages, in such a tumultuous time, we can ensure businesses can continue to thrive and remain competitive.”
Lord Blunkett, Chairman of The Leaders Council, said: “Policy is not created in a vacuum and its effects are often felt in surprising and unexpected ways. In both the creation of policy and the aftermath of its implementation, a robust critique is vital.
“This special report provides a platform for such critique, which will be provided by experts across multiple sectors of our society. We take no stance ourselves but enable others who will be affected by policy changes to express their informed opinions.”
The special report will be presented to relevant MPs and Lords, as well as leading industry figures. The Leaders Council is open to additional input from anyone with an expertise on the subject.
