A lifelong passion for dance has become a successful business venture for sisters Natasha and Isobel Hair, with the recent launch of Inspire Studios in Sunderland.
Located in the heart of the city, Inspire Studios offers a wide range of inclusive dance classes for all ages and abilities – from baby sessions and adult beginners to private lessons and a full timetable including ballet, tap, jazz, acro, and more.
With strong backgrounds in the performing arts, Natasha and Isobel bring a wealth of experience to the studio. Natasha, a graduate of Performers College with a degree in Dance and Musical Theatre, has performed in numerous professional productions and even appeared in Better Man, the upcoming biographical film about Robbie Williams.
Isobel, who has six years’ teaching experience, is trained across a variety of recognised syllabuses, including the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), British Theatre Drama Association (BDTA), International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), and the Northern Counties Dance Teachers’ Association (NCDTA). She is currently studying at the University of Sunderland and plays an active role on the university’s dance team committee.
Determined to turn their dream into reality, the sisters reached out to the North East BIC (Business and Innovation Centre) after a suitable studio space became available. With expert mentoring, access to funding, and free business workshops, the BIC provided the tools and support needed to get Inspire Studios off the ground.
“Dance has always been more than just a hobby for us,” said Natasha. “We’ve grown up performing side by side, and it’s shaped who we are. It’s helped us build confidence, resilience and friendships that have lasted a lifetime – and now, we want to offer that same experience to others.
“Last year was especially challenging for me after suffering a serious illness. So when this opportunity came along, we grabbed it with both hands. Inspire Studios is the result of years of dreaming, and we couldn’t be more proud.”
Isobel added: “We’re incredibly grateful for the support from the BIC – their team has been brilliant from start to finish. For anyone thinking of starting a business, I’d definitely recommend reaching out. There’s more support out there than you think.
“We’re excited to bring something new to Sunderland’s creative scene. Whether it’s building confidence through dance, collaborating with local businesses and charities, or simply offering a welcoming, inclusive space – we’re here to bring people together.”
The support provided by the BIC falls under the Enterprising Sunderland programme, funded by £523,541 from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The programme is managed locally by Sunderland City Council on behalf of the Sunderland Partnership.
Now fully operational, Inspire Studios is already making an impact – from reintroducing adults to the joy of dance, to helping young people express themselves and grow in confidence. The studio also has plans to participate in competitions and performance events, creating opportunities for students from all walks of life.
